Give more priority to the Ethernet connection over WiFi - Windows 7

If your laptop typically uses a WiFi connection, you happen maybe the WiFi connection is active, even if you connect your computer via a wired Ethernet connection. To automatically switch to the Ethernet network, you must give it a higher priority than WiFi.

  1. Simultaneously press the Windows key and R.
  2. In the Run window that appears, enter the command ncpa.cpl.

  3. In the Network Connections window that appears, press the Alt key to display the menu bar. Click Advanced and then click Advanced Settings.

  4. Select your WiFi connection and click the green arrow down to decrease its priority so that it is under your Ethernet connection.

  5. Finally, click OK. When you connect via WiFi and Ethernet, the Ethernet connection will have priority.
