Twitter Founders Reveal New Publishing Tool

A new publishing tool is being developed by Obvious, a company headed by Biz Stone and Evan Williams, the co-founders of Twitter.

In a recent blog post, Williams talks about Medium, a collaborative and unique means for publishing content.

Working with Others

According to Williams, although being a one-person media firm is great, it would be much better if people can work with one another.

This is basically the main goal of Medium. When a person submits content like photographs and texts, these will be classified into specific “collections.” People can then view and add their own contents to these collections, which will be listed based on user ratings, rather than in a chronological manner.

Williams also shares that Medium makes it possible for people to decide on their own level of contribution. Some people may just want to view or read content, while others may want to click on the content that they think are good.

This kind of feedback helps to increase the possibility of other users seeing the content; it also lets the creator know what viewers think.

Sample Collections

Submitting and posting content on Medium is reported to be easy and “elegant.” At present, it is not yet open to all, but the following collections have been made as preview samples:
1. “Been There. Loved That.” is a venue for all kinds of photos, including the artistic and the peculiar.
2. “Look What I Made” is a place for people to post their creations.
3. “The Writer’s Room” is a venue for discussing works about writing.
4. “The Obvious Collection” is a place for discussing the goals and projects of Obvious.

In time, Medium shall soon be available to everyone, as a unique and collaborative venue for sharing and viewing all kinds of content.
